Open House April 15 & 16

You’re invited to observe a Young Lions Jazz Conservatory class. Come watch a rehearsal on April 15 or 16. The instructor will give a brief introductory talk at the beginning of class and then you can sit back and enjoy the rehearsal.

  • Sunday, April 15: 9am, 10am, 11am, 1pm, 3pm, and two at 5pm

Master Class with John Clayton

Date: February 25, 2018

Location: 2650 Truxtun Road, Room #204

Grammy award winner John Clayton will hold a master class and concert on Sunday, February 25. He founded the famous Clayton-Hamilton Jazz Orchestra with his brother, saxophonist Jeff Clayton, and drummer Jeff Hamilton in 1985. Our own Artistic Director Gilbert Castellanos performs with this group. Clayton is the Artistic Director of several jazz festivals and teaches at The University of Southern California Thornton School of Music. We are excited for him to share his knowledge and love of music with our students and the community.

Jazz @ The Jacobs

Young Lions Jazz Conservatory Artistic Director Gilbert Castellanos is also the curator for Jazz @ The Jacobs at Symphony Hall. On Saturday, April 24, the concert is “Affinity: A Ray Brown and Oscar Peterson Tribute.” This is a very special event for our Young Lions Conservatory students as they will be featured in the lobby AND on the main stage for this performance.

Arrive at 7pm to attend the lobby performance featuring students Zion Dyson (vocals), Ed Gabrielyan (keys, graduated Young Lion), Julian Roel (alto sax) and Wesley Biasi (drums).

On the main stage at 8pm students Brenda Greggio (piano), John Murray (bass) and Carmen Murray (drums) will be featured for a short set.
